The Role
We're looking for an AI Automation Engineer who can design, build, and optimize intelligent agents and automation systems for real business problems.
You start hands-on. You build multi-model AI agents, advanced RAG systems, and automation workflows that actually perform. You're not just implementing off-the-shelf solutions: you tune, evaluate, and push systems until they deliver measurable impact for clients.
As we grow, your scope expands. You become the go-to on agent architecture and automation standards across projects.
Phase 1 (start): 80% building yourself, 20% client and team involvement. 2-3 projects in parallel. Phase 2 (growth): More architecture, more oversight. You set the standard for how we build and evaluate AI systems across the board.
What you'll do
Design and implement multi-step, multi-model AI agents with complex task flows
Build and optimize RAG systems tailored for agentic use cases: chunking strategies, retrieval methods, accuracy tuning
Create automation workflows in n8n integrating AI models, APIs, and business processes
Use LangSmith for observability, debugging, and performance optimization
Apply fine-tuning methods including PEFT and LoRA for targeted performance improvements
Manage training dataset collection, curation, and optimization
Develop EVAL frameworks to measure model accuracy, reliability, and user satisfaction
Continuously improve prompt design, retrieval strategies, and fine-tuning for maximum client impact
Who you are
You thrive on pushing AI systems to their limits. You don't stop at "it works" - you ask why it works, where it breaks, and how to make it better. You're equally comfortable in the weeds of a RAG pipeline and in a client conversation about what the system actually needs to do. In a small team, you don't wait for instructions. You see what needs to happen and you get it done.
What we're specifically looking for:
Proven experience with LangSmith and n8n
Strong Python skills with a solid track record in production AI systems
Hands-on experience with RAG architectures and chunking optimization
Strong background in prompt engineering across multiple AI models
Solid understanding of agentic RAG and multi-step reasoning approaches
Expertise in model fine-tuning: PEFT, LoRA, and related strategies
Experience building EVAL and performance measurement systems for AI agents
Familiarity with multi-model orchestration and AI system design best practices
Excellent Dutch and strong English
Nice to have:
Experience with autonomous agents in enterprise environments
Knowledge of cutting-edge agent frameworks and orchestration tools
Understanding of reinforcement learning for model improvement
What we offer
€4,200 - €6,500 gross per month, plus 8% holiday allowance
32-40 hour work week, your choice
Hybrid working from Rotterdam, minimum 2 days in the office
A team that doesn't just sell AI but builds and uses it daily
A clear growth path: from engineer to lead architect across a growing project portfolio
