AI Consultant / Project Manager AI
What's Next AI is an AI consultancy in Rotterdam. We build practical AI solutions for companies: LLM integrations, AI agents, RAG systems and automation platforms. Our goal is working software that makes processes smarter.
We're a growing team and part of a larger group, but operate independently. Short lines, plenty of ownership and no meeting culture. We mostly build in Python and use AI daily in our own work.
The role
We're looking for someone who guides our clients from first question to working solution. You understand the client, translate problems into feasible AI solutions, and make sure the team knows exactly what needs to be built.
You're not a classic project manager and not a techie either. You sit in between. You're technical enough to understand what's possible, what isn't, and what's overkill. You can talk with a director about value, risks and adoption, and with a developer about scope, data, LLMs, RAG and agents.
During the project, you're the point of contact for the client. You manage expectations, run reviews, absorb changes, and make sure the team can keep building without noise.
After delivery, you look beyond "it's built." Is the solution being used? Does it save time? Does it actually help the client? You make sure we don't just deliver something, but deliver real value.
In short: you own the client, the dev team owns the tech. Together we deliver AI solutions that genuinely move the needle for the client.
What you do
Run client conversations: pull out what they need and keep asking until you've nailed the real question
Design AI solutions: what works with LLMs, RAG, agents or automation, and what's overkill or unrealistic
Define scope and estimates: what we'll build, in how much time, for what budget, and with what intended outcome
Brief the dev team so developers and engineers can hit the ground running
Run the project: track progress, do reviews, update the client and manage expectations
Spot opportunities at clients: where's the follow-on value, what's the logical next step, and what should we explicitly not do
Provide aftercare post-delivery: is the solution being used, does it work in practice, what can be better
Tell the client the story in language they understand
Projects might cover things like AI agents that automate internal processes, RAG systems on top of company documentation, analysis tools, or workflows that combine email, documents and business data.
Who you are
You've worked with AI yourself enough to sketch a solution in a client conversation that actually holds up. You know the difference between a prompt, RAG and an agent, and you know when to use which.
At the same time, you enjoy working with clients. You listen better than you talk. You can say no to a client without damaging the relationship. And when something goes wrong, you're the one who explains it, fixes it, and keeps everyone calm.
You don't need to be a developer, but you do need to understand what's being built. We mostly build in Python, so it helps if you can read Python and are technical enough to think along on choices, risks and feasibility.
What we're specifically looking for
5+ years of work experience across consultancy, AI/tech, project leadership or client-facing roles
You've helped build, guide or deliver AI solutions
You understand LLM projects from the inside and can read Python, even if you're not the developer
You can independently produce a scope and estimate that holds water
Experience running projects end-to-end, including client communication
Strong conversationalist: you can have a technical conversation with a developer as easily as a strategic one with a director
Excellent Dutch and solid English
HBO or WO level of work and thinking
Nice to have
Experience at a consultancy, agency or product studio
Background in software development, data engineering or business intelligence
Knowledge of AI governance, compliance or GDPR in the context of AI
